Editorial Policy

WisestWallet explains everyday money topics like budgeting, credit, and debt so you can make your own decisions with better information. This page explains how we write, check, and update our articles and tools.

Who writes our content

Amie Nguyen writes our articles. She founded WisestWallet to share the money lessons she had to learn on her own. Each article shows its author, the date it went up, and the date of its last update.

How we check facts

Rules, rates, and programs change, so we check the facts in each article against the organizations that set them or publish the data. Where we can, we go to primary sources, such as:

  • Government agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the IRS, and the Federal Reserve
  • The credit bureaus and credit scoring companies, such as Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, FICO, and VantageScore
  • Official program pages, laws, and regulations
  • Published research from universities and established nonprofit organizations

We link to the sources we rely on so you can read them yourself. If a fact depends on your state, lender, or personal situation, we say so.

Keeping articles up to date

We review articles when the rules or programs they cover change, and we revisit older articles over time. After a meaningful change, the article shows a new “Updated” date at the top. If a program has ended, we say so in the article and remove instructions that no longer work.

Our calculators

Our calculators give estimates based on the numbers you enter and the assumptions described on each tool. Real results can differ because of fees, rate changes, and how each lender calculates payments. Check the final numbers with your lender or provider before you decide.

Advertising and independence

WisestWallet may show ads and may link to products or services from companies we have a relationship with. Advertisers and partners do not write, review, or approve our articles, and they do not decide what we cover or what we say about a product. If we earn money when you use a link, that does not change our explanations or the facts we present.

Not financial advice

Our content is general education. It is not financial, legal, or tax advice, and it is not a recommendation for your specific situation. For decisions with serious consequences, talk to a qualified professional, such as a nonprofit credit counselor, an attorney, or a tax preparer.

Corrections

If you find an error or something that is out of date, please contact us and tell us which article and what needs fixing. We read each report and fix the errors we confirm.
